After a morning pickup in Reykjavík, you’ll head straight for Iceland’s legendary Golden Circle. Your first stop is Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where Iceland’s earliest parliament met—and where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly pull apart. It’s one of the few places on Earth where you can stand between continents.
Next, visit the Geysir geothermal area, where Strokkur erupts like clockwork, blasting boiling water up to 20 meters (65 feet) into the air. Then continue to Gullfoss, a thunderous waterfall that crashes into a rugged canyon—often decorated with rainbows on clear days.
Before reaching your overnight stay in the coastal village of Vík, you’ll stop at Seljalandsfoss, a stunning waterfall with a path behind the cascade (accessible in summer). With volcanic horizons and dramatic sea cliffs, Vík sets the tone for the adventures ahead. Traveling between September and April? Look skyward—this could be your first chance to spot the Northern Lights.
